On Sunday, July 08, 2018 few students of GGHS participated in the cultural activities which
were a part of jubilant celebrations of Brahmotsava at ISKCON’s Sri Sri Radha Gopinath temple,
Girgaum, chowpatty, Mumbai 400007.
Brahmotsava is celebrated in this temple to commemorate the day of installation of the deities
of Sri Sri Radha Gopinathji. The deities were installed in July 1988.
The celebrations in the temple began with hundreds of devotees attending the Mangal aarti in
the morning followed by melodious kirtans. Senior devotees of the congregation shared their
memories and reciprocations with the devotees and Their Lordships. A sumptuous lunch feast
was served to all the attendees.
In the afternoon at 4:30 pm a procession of the Utsav Murtis of the temple was scheduled.
GGHS students performed 3 cultural presentations for the pleasure of Their Lordships. The
Utsav Murtis were taken around the temple to show various departments. Small girls of classes
1 and 2 dressed as Gopis preceded the procession carrying various deity paraphernalia like the
diyas, flowers, aarti plates etc. The boys of classes 5 to 8 presented a dance on song ‘Radha
Albeli Sarkar’ followed by a dance presentation by the girls of classes 3, 4 and 5. The girls
performed a dance on a Kannada song ‘Krishna’. After the dances senior students of GGHS
presented a series of 3 marathi lokgeet (folk songs) glorifying Radha Gopinathji. All the
presentations were highly appreciated by the guests and the devotees.
Like every year students of class 10 offered a gift of hand woven shawl (made by GGHS
students) and a large greeting card for the pleasure of Their Lordships. These gifts were
After the cultural show, the celebrations concluded by the singing of the beautiful and
melodious Gopi Geet by the devotees.
It was a memorable experience for both the teachers and the students.
